Project and Traces

Well, this week I had to work on my project proposal for 663. I was at a near complete loss for what to do, but I put in a proposal for something combining streaming media and a peer to peer client. I have the sinking feeling that the prof will not like it, but we will see when that time comes. If he doesn’t like it, I can always propose something else and go with that.

Today Seongsoo brought by the network traces for me to copy and work with. One trace was 9GB and only really contained the packet header information. I guess I should have expected it to be really big, just never really did the numbers. The next step is to figure out how to actually send the data through the network interface so that I can do the display and capture. In the interim, I have been improving the display capabilities drastically. I only wish that Java’s display was as easy to work with as the nibs in Mac OS X.

A little off the topic of school: During my 663 and 668 class, I would set an away message that said “663” and “668” respectively. Well, today I set and away message of “668 ‘I am not a number, I am a free man’ Who knows what that is from?”. Matthew responded, so I know one person out there reads my away messages.
